After the upset in the opening game of this T20I series, West Indies bounced back hard in the final match. With the second game abandoned due to rain, the series finished in a draw. The bad collapse with the bat hurt Ireland in this game. Lendl Simmons was lethal with the bat and made the most of an early reprieve that he got. Also, the senior players – Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo were excellent with the ball making this cakewalk win for the hosts possible.
On a brilliant batting deck, Ireland was asked to bat first. They replied with some exceptional batting and added 48 runs in the first three overs. This included a 21-run over off Sheldon Cottrell. While Kevin O’Brien was the aggressor with an 18-ball 36, Paul Stirling only scored 11 runs. However, both these men got out within the powerplay. Furthermore, Kieron Pollard came up with a double blow in the 8th over dismissing both Gareth Delany and Harry Tector.
Skipper Andrew Balbirnie looked good during his time in the middle but was run out for 28. Then began a bad collapse. From 93/4, the side was bowled out for 138 runs in 19.1 overs. Had it not been for an unbeaten 18 from Barry McCarthy, the team would have been in an even worse position. Seven batsmen got just single-digit scores. Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo picked up two wickets each.
Lendl Simmons smashes 10 sixes in his innings
The chase was quite easy for the West Indies. Their openers set the platform with some aggressive batting. Lendl Simmons was dropped early in his innings by opposition skipper Balbirnie. He maximised this opportunity and gave no respite to the bowlers. Along with Evin Lewis, he seemed unstoppable. Even though West Indies was on course for a 10-wicket win, the left-hander fell when his team was six runs short.
Simi Singh dismissed Lewis for 46 off 25 balls. Nicholas Pooran walked in at three and immediately gave the strike to Lendl Simmons. With his 10th six of the innings, he sealed the chase for his side. He remained unbeaten on 91 off 40 deliveries as West Indies reached the target in just 11 overs.
