Prior to the ongoing 2018 Asia Cup final between India and Bangladesh at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, right-handed Bangladeshi batsman Liton Das had scored a mere 225 runs to his name in 17 ODIs with a highest score of 41, which came against Asghar Afghan’s Afghanistan in the last Super 4 match at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi a couple of days ago.
With an average of 14.06, he hadn’t justified his talent in the 50-overs format. However, he shunned all the criticism and came into his own in the final against the Men in Blue and notched his maiden century in ODIs in 87 balls. Moreover, the knock came under extreme pressure and against a team, which has looked a class apart than any other opponent in the tournament.
Liton stands tall for the Tigers
India won the toss and had no hesitation to bowl first. Bangladesh made a surprise alteration and sent Mehidy Hasan Miraz to open along with Liton. The move worked wonders and both stitched together a stand of 120 runs from 20.5 overs. The swashbuckling batter was well and truly the aggressor and didn’t die wondering during his stint in the middle.
While Mehidy played the sheet anchor’s role, Liton scored boundaries at regular intervals, much to Rohit and Co’s discomfort. He accomplished his half-century inside the first 12 overs but slowed down a tad thereafter. In the third delivery of the 29th over by Kedar Jadhav, Liton smacked the part-time off-spinner for a boundary through the square leg region to reach 99.
In the very next ball, he patted the ball down to long on to accomplish a stupendous century. En route the stupendous knock, he also saw four Bangladeshi wickets fall down. Moreover, he hit a couple of sixes of leg-break bowler Yuzvendra Chahal. Following the incredible knock in Dubai, Twitter heaped praises on the Dinajpur-born cricketer.
