Twitter Reactions: Livingstone-Inglis duo's 102-run partnership guides Perth Scorchers to win against Melbourne Renegades

In the 26th match of Big Bash League 2019-20, Melbourne Renegades came face to face against Perth Scorchers at Simonds Stadium in Geelong. The fans had expected it to be a competitive match between the two teams but that was not the case. Renegades failed to break their losing streak as they suffered seventh consecutive defeat in this season. Mitchell Marsh and Co. registered a convincing win by a margin of six wickets on the back of brilliant performance given by their openers.

After winning the toss, Scorchers elected to bowl and their bowlers came with an impressive show. Their fast bowler Jhye Richardson dismissed in-form Renegades skipper Aaron Finch in the first over of the innings. The right-handed Aussie international looked in hurry and attempted a mistimed stroke off Richardson and was caught by Chris Green at deep mid-wicket.

Richardson helped his side in getting the second breakthrough and dismissed Marcus Harris that left Renegades struggling on a score of 19 runs with two wickets. Shaun Marsh also failed to replicate his good form in this match and crumbled after scoring two runs. Aaron Finch and Co. again looked in danger but a brilliant partnership of 71 runs between Sam Harper and Beau Webster helped their side in overcoming from the early setbacks.

Sam Harper muscled 73 runs off 46 balls with three massive sixes and seven boundaries while Beau Webster also clicked a brilliant knock of 59 runs off 40 balls with four sixes and three boundaries. Renegades successfully posted a competitive total of 175 runs in stipulated 20 overs courtesy to the duo brilliant effort with the bat.

Jhye Richardson turned out to be the best bowler for Scorchers and registered brilliant bowling figures of 3/22 and was well supported by his skipper Mitchell Marsh from the other end, who scalped two wickets in the match.

Josh Inglis and Liam Livingstone punish Melbourne Renegades’ bowlers

Coming onto the chase, Scorchers got off to a flying start as their opener Josh Inglis and Liam Livingstone knitted a brilliant partnership of 102 runs for the first wicket that took the match away from Renegades. The duo looked in their full flow with the bat and made the mockery of the bowling unit.

Livingstone played an elegant knock of 59 runs off 39 balls with four sixes and three boundaries before his inning came to halt. He tried to slice the ball over the covers off Richard Gleeson but failed to get elevation and was caught by Aaron Finch. Just after thee overs, Kane Richardson dismissed another settled opener Inglis, who managed to pull off a brilliant fifty with the bat. It looked like Renegades might mark their comeback but that was too late.

The middle-order batsman Cameron Bancroft (24)  and Mitchell Marsh (21) valuable contribution with the bat helped Scorchers in going past the target of 178 runs without much hustle with six balls to spare. This also helped their side in winning their third game of this season and Liam Livingstone was awarded Man of the Match for his brilliant knock.
