Twitter Reactions: Lungi Ngidi gets Kohli as India on brink of a series defeat
Twitter was all praise for South Africa. On the other hand, India’s field decisions, poor bowling and soft dismissals were criticised big time
The Centurion Test continued to sway with the twist and turns throughout Day 4 as well. However, by the end of the day, the scoreline suggested that the Proteas have got this in the bag. Resuming from their overnight score of 90/2, South Africa began well in the morning session.
For a moment, it seemed that the duo of Dean Elgar and AB de Villiers had taken away the game for India. However, both got out in quick succession as Mohammed Shami rose to the occasion. He accounted for Quinton de Kock’s wicket who edged for a fourth consecutive time.
Skipper Faf du Plessis and Vernon Philander continued to make India toil. Du Plessis went on to register a splendid half century and the tail wagged once again. South Africa were finally bowled out for a total of 258 runs with a target of 287 set for the visitors.
The Indian bowling kept losing the plot for a major part of the game. However, they managed to put up a much better show than their batting counterparts. Shami was the pick amongst the bowlers with a four-wicket haul. Jasprit Bumrah got three wickets while Ishant Sharma got a couple.
India began really slow as they faced a daunting task ahead. Murali Vijay was bowled by Kagiso Rabada as the ball kept low. KL Rahul failed again as he ended up with a soft dismal, playing a reckless shot. Reduced to 16/2, skipper Virat Kohli was probably their last hope.
However, Lungisani Ngidi bowled a gem of a delivery that hit him in front. The umpire gave it out as Kohli risked a review which went in vain. India were reduced to 26/3 as they stared another defeat at the hands of South Africa. Ngidi got a couple of wickets while Rabada got one as India were 35/3 at stumps on Day 4.
With the game completely out of India’s favour, Twitter was all praise for South Africa. On the other hand, India’s field decisions, poor bowling and soft dismissals were criticised big time.
