The last match of the Dhaka phase of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) was a highly entertaining one. Chittagong Vikings faced the Comilla Victorians and they played one of the most entertaining games of the league thus far. Thisara Perera, with some breathtaking shots, played one of the best knocks of the season which left the fans on the edge of their seats.
Yet, his knock went in vain courtesy a lone-warrior knock from Mushfiqur Rahim. The Bangladesh wicket-keeper was brilliant on the night and took his team home almost single-handedly. The game boiled down to the last over and the pendulum kept swinging in the favour of both these teams throughout.
Thisara Perera rips apart the opposition bowling attack
The Comilla Victorians were put into bat first in this game and they did not have the best of starts. Tamim Iqbal was dismissed for a duck, Evin Lewis returned back retired hurt after scoring 38. Shahid Afridi, who has been the top performer with the bat for the team, was out hit wicket in the most unfortunate way. At 86/5 after 13.2 overs, they found themselves in a rabbit hole.
This is when Thisara Perera entered and showed Bangladesh what he is capable of. With little support from Saifuddin, he literally ripped apart the bowling attack of the Vikings and was a delight to watch. He only took 26 balls to smash 74 runs at a strike rate of 285. The left-hander smashed 8 sixes and 3 fours as the Comilla Victorians finished on a high with 184/5 in 20 overs. He added an unbeaten 98 runs with Saifuddin in the last 40 balls of the innings.
Mushfiqur Rahim takes the game deep
Mohammad Shahzad provided the Chittagong Vikings with a good start scoring 46 off 27 balls. However, his partner Cameron Delport, who has been in great touch, was out cheaply for just 13 runs. The other batsmen didn’t fire either and things seemed to be drifting out of control for the team. However, Mushfiqur Rahim made use of his entire experience in this situation and played an exuberating knock.
He scored 75 runs off 41 deliveries including 7 fours and 4 sixes. He kept faith in his ability and fought hard right until the end. Rahim, though, got out in the penultimate over of the match with his team still needing 7 to win in the last six balls. Robbie Frylinck finished the game with a six to register a 4-wicket win.
Twitterati’s heart rate went up sky high watching this game. Supporters of both the teams enjoyed the game and had no nails left by the time the result came out. The fans were enthralled with Mushfiqur Rahim performing so well. However, many of them were utterly dejected watching the efforts of Thisara Perera go all in vain.
Here is how Twitterati reacted:
Mushfiqur Rahim should stop this habit of going for glory shots.
7 of 7 balls.
Didn't need to go for a big shot.
Just singles would've won the game too.#BPLT20— PK 🇮🇳 (@iPkoppula) January 13, 2019
