At 14/3 in the first hour of the opening morning of the Test match, Zimbabwe were in deep trouble against a strong Windies bowling line-up. Solomon Mire, Craig Ervine and Brendan Taylor were back in the hut for scores of 4, 0 and 1. Kemar Roach started it off sending back Mire, his partner Shanon Gabriel responded with the wicket of Ervine, Roach came back to remove another pillar of this Zimbabwean batting attack, Taylor.

The incoming batsmen had a huge task at hand; they didn’t just need to stop this flow of wickets but also initiate recovery as they would otherwise be in distant waters pretty early in the Test match. Thereafter the experienced duo of Hamilton Masakadza and Peter Moor defied the Windies attack. They showed immense composure and soaked the pressure and didn’t fall.

They had smaller targets and put one block at a time to first get to the fifty, the hundred was in sight soon and their partnership was worth 100. By tea, Zimbabwe were approaching 150 having batted 53 overs and there were no wickets lost. Moor got to his half century soon after and the hundred was on the cards for Masakadza.

The veteran got there off 170 balls with the help nine boundaries and a couple of sixes which indicates that once he was in control of the situation, Masakadza did play his shots and didn’t let the Windies bowlers dominate them all the way. In the last part of the day, they, unfortunately, lost Moor who was out bowled by Roston Chase for 52 off 155 balls.

There was a rain interruption when their score was 169/4 in 61 overs with Masakadza batting on 101 and Sikandar Raza on 9. The rain gods didn’t allow any further play and the day ended on the same note.
