The first ODI between Pakistan and Australia failed to be any short of entertainment. The Brisbane crowd witnessed a stellar comeback from Australia after being stranded at 78/5 at one stage. Also, let’s not forget Pakistan’s fielding that made the job even easier. Aussie wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade completed his maiden century on the last ball of the innings.
Earlier in the day, it was captain Steve Smith who won the toss as they elected to bat first and put runs on the board. Billy Stanlake made his one-day international debut for the Aussies as the tallest Australian international cricketer. Hazlewood was rested for this game. The hosts weren’t off to a great start.
Mohammed Amir bowled a furious spell to restrict the run flow from David Warner and Travis Head. He soon followed it up by striking on consecutive balls and getting two big wickets in the form of Warner and Smith who got out for a golden duck. Chris Lynn and Mitchell Marsh also failed to make an opportunity out of it and were back to the pavilion in no time.
Imad Wasim got Travis Head’s wicket and Australia were reeling at 78/5. Even a total around 150 seemed far from the reckoning. Glenn Maxwell then put up a superb knock of 60 (56). But the hero of the Aussie innings was Matthew Wade who played a splendid knock and went on to score his first century in One Day Internationals.

Twitter was full of surprise as they didn’t expect to see this destructive and match saving grace in Wade. He was praised for showing a bold face when Australia were struggling at one stage. Here are some of the amazing twitter reactions on his scintillating knock:
