Mayank Agarwal has slammed his second consecutive Test ton in the ongoing series against South Africa. He backed up his double ton in the first innings of the Vizag Test and is making the most of the favourable batting conditions at home. He was yet again keen to score big but Kagiso Rabada got his wicket when Agarwal was on 108 to leave India at 198/3.

Earlier in the day, Virat Kohli yet again won the toss and opted to bat first. But South Africa didn’t have to wait for long to get their first wicket. Kagiso Rabada induced an edge off Rohit Sharma’s bat to rock India early. However, Agarwal survived the tough first hour on a pitch which had a shade of grass on it and then made merry of the opposition bowling attack.

Determined Agarwal at it again

He got an able ally in Cheteshwar Pujara as the duo duly respected the brilliant opposition bowling. Mayank Agarwal, time and again though, made sure that the bad deliveries were punished and apart from an uncomfortable moment here and there, looked absolutely unperturbed in the middle. He concentrated on rotating the strike as well after collecting the majority of runs early on in boundaries.

After adding 138 runs together, Pujara got out at the stroke of the tea. But Agarwal was content on playing a long innings and made sure he held one end scoring runs at a fair clip. Of all his shots, the crisp straight drive he hit off Anrich Nortje was the best on the day and fluency in his batting was there to see throughout his stay.

The Karnataka batsman had to see off a short ball barrage from Nortje as well on his way to the century but didn’t throw his wicket away. Soon after the third session began, Agarwal didn’t let the nervous nineties get to him and attacked Keshav Maharaj. He smacked the left-arm spinner for two back-to-back sixes to jump to 99 from 87 much like how Virender Sehwag used to do during his prime.

Eventually, he got to the three-figure in the very next over off Vernon Philander in a cheeky way and notched up his second consecutive century. But soon after the century, he got out after edging one from Rabada to the slips.
