Till date, the ongoing editions of Caribbean Premier League (CPL) has undoubtedly been the edition of Shah Rukh Khan owned franchise Trinbago Knight Riders. Showing the traits of a compact unit that is very much capable of lifting the title, one player or the other has stepped up in some match for TKR to take them through. The only loss they suffered after playing 8 games was against Jamaica Tallawahs, but that equation too is all square now after yesterday (Windian time).

Winning the toss, Jamaican skipper Kumar Sangakkara decided to bowl first. He couldn’t have asked for a better start as pinch-hitter Sunil Narine was out for a golden duck. But the two Kiwis Brendon McCullum and Colin Munro were in ‘destruction mode’ and went after the Tallawahs’ bowling lineup. After Munro was dismissed for a quick fire 42, Darren Bravo, went after the bowlers.

Known for his elegant technique, Bravo scored 28 runs in just 13 balls as the scoreboard was soaring high. Robert Frylinck also played his part, but the star of the show was McCullum. The former New Zealand skipper found himself just 9 runs short of a century. Javon Searles and Dwayne Bravo played to the rhythm set by McCullum and helped TKR reach a mammoth score of 208 runs at the Sabina Park in Jamaica.

The Jamaican innings had a pretty similar start as opener Glenn Phillips was out for a duck. But if it was a retired legend in form of McCullum for TKR, it was another retired legend Kumar Sangakkara for Jamaica. Along with Simmons, Sangakkara formed a great partnership and it seemed like the home side was not in a mood to surrender in front of the mountain-like total.

After their dismissal, Andre McCarthy and Rovman Powell tried to play their part but eventually succumbed under the pressure of the target. Hence, while once it was assumed that the spectators will witness a nail-biting finish, TKR eventually had an easy victory. All Jamaica could manage in 20 overs was 172/7. With this win, the first position of league stages is sealed in the name of TKR, while Jamaica are still very much in the race for the playoffs qualification. Twitterati saluted McCullum for his classic knock, while some felt sad for another legend Sangakkara.
