The Hobart Hurricanes decimated the Melbourne Renegades side by 85 runs in the 26th Match of the Big Bash League (BBL) tournament. Batting first, the Hurricanes posted a mammoth total of 206/5 on the board.
Ben McDermott absolutely tore into the Renegades’ bowling attack. In an innings that lasted 65 deliveries, McDermott blasted a whirlwind 127. McDermott’s innings was studded with 9 fours and 9 sixes. Apart from McDermott, Tim David also chipped in with a quickfire 9-ball 30* as well.
Reece Topley produced a superb performance with the ball for the Renegades. The left-arm pacer picked up 2 wickets in his 4-over quota, and also gave away only 17 runs in the process as well.
Melbourne Renegades crumble in reply
The Melbourne Renegades were nowhere in the chase. Apart from opener Sam Harper, who scored 57 off 35 deliveries, not even a single batter from the Renegades’ outfit could even cross the 30-run mark. Also, 3 batters were dismissed without opening their account as well.
For the Hurricanes, Thomas Rogers and Sandeep Lamichhane picked up 3 wickets each to push their opposition on the backfoot. Ben McDermott walked away with the Player of the Match award for his sensational century that rendered the Renegades’ bowlers clueless.
After this dominating win, the Hobart Hurricanes are placed at the 3rd spot in the points table, while the Renegades are languishing helplessly at the last place. The Hobart Hurricanes will next be seen in action on 1st January 2022, when they clash against the Brisbane Heat side. On the other hand, the Melbourne Renegades will next lock horns with the Sydney Sixers on 1st January 2022.
