Melbourne Renegades thumped Sydney Sixers by eight wickets in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) at Simonds Stadium in Geelong. The match was a one-sided one much against the expectations of everyone with the Women’s game between the same opponents going down to the wire. It was a forgettable outing for Sixers as their batsmen struggled to put up a decent total on the board after being invited to bat first. However, the victory was celebrated by the Twitter as the fans loved the strong show from Renegades which brushed aside their opponents.

The opening duo of Jason Roy and Peter Nevill of Sixers was sent back by the end of the fourth over by Dwayne Bravo and Mohammad Nabi. They never recovered from the blows and kept on losing any momentum gathered by a small stand. It was a painful stay for every batsman in the middle with Renegades bowlers using their variations cleverly. It was Johan Botha, the skipper, who upped the ante in the death overs and helped his team to a well-below-par total of 111 after their stipulated 20 overs.

Clinical chase

Melbourne Renegades were also dealt with an early blow as the Ben Dwarshius castled Marcus Harris in the first over. But the captain Aaron Finch and Cameron White resurrected the innings and started accumulating runs at a fast pace. Their steady partnership meant the shoulders of the fielding side started to drop. Finch, in the process, reached his half-century continuing his good run in the tournament. But he couldn’t finish the game for his side courtesy a sensational direct hit from Jason Roy with only 19 runs required.

White though made sure there were no hiccups further in the chase and remained unbeaten on 49 as Bravo finished the game with a boundary. While Renegades have won three now after four games, Sixers have lost their fifth match on the trot. They have to soon start winning before being knocked out of the competition. Twitterati though didn’t miss out on a chance to troll them and hailed Melbourne Renegades for a clinical performance.
