Twitter Reactions: Moises Henriques and Jordan Silk keep Brisbane Heat winless
Lynn scored 84 off just 55 balls but his knock went in vain.
Brisbane Heat hosted the Sydney Sixers in a New Year clash in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) at the Carrara Oval in Queensland. It began in a grandiose way for the latter as the Heat continued to search for their first win of the season. This also completed the hat-trick of losses for Brisbane who failed to defend 165 runs as Moises Henriques and Jordan Silk played superbly when it mattered the most.
Playing their first game in nine days, Brisbane Heat understandably looked rusty. They were invited to bat first on a belter of a track as Max Bryant got them off to a fantastic start. His new opening partner, Sam Heazlett, couldn’t do much with Ben Dwarshius disturbing his furniture in the third over of the game itself. Bryant smashed 34 off just 18 balls but couldn’t capitalise on it.
Joe Burns, Brendon McCullum and Ben Cutting disappointed yet again to leave their team reeling. But the skipper Chris Lynn was in the mood and looked determined to play a big knock. He did so by bringing his top game to the fore. He went on to score 84 off just 55 balls and got an ideal foil in Jimmy Peirson who got out of the last ball of the innings with Heat finishing on 164/7 which looked a competitive total.
Silk and Henriques keep nerve
The ploy of bringing in Justin Avendano worked wonders for the Sixers. He gave stability to the innings which was missing in the earlier matches and the impetus was enough for the middle-order to carry on. Moises Henriques and Jordan Silk came together at 81/3 in the 12th over and made sure that the game didn’t go away from them. The former slammed an impressive half-century but Cutting’s variations were too good for him in the 17th over which made the game interesting.
With Henriques back in the hut, the match was set-up for an exciting finish. However, Silk was set and played an entertaining knock to eke out maximum runs off the 19th over bowled by Josh Lalor. Even though he got out off the last ball, the equation had then come down to run-a-ball for the 20th over. Josh Philippe was the perfect man for the situation as he kept his cool and gunned down the remaining runs.
Sixers, with their third win of the season, are now sitting pretty at the second position in the points table and will be keen on continuing in the same vein.
