Twitter Reactions: Multan Sultans hammer Peshawar Zalmi to extend unbeaten run
Imran Tahir and Shahnawaz Dahani picked up three wickets each to push Peshawar Zalmi on the backfoot.
Tim David’s brutal fifty alongside Mohammad Rizwan’s 82 helped the Multan Sultans keep their unbeaten run going in PSL 2022. Peshawar Zalmi won the toss and opted to bowl at the National Stadium in Karachi in the 13th game of the league.
The openers Shan Masood and Mohammad Rizwan teed off from the start, scoring at a brisk run rate and managed to get to 61 in the powerplay without losing wicket. Masood was dismissed for 35 off just 25 balls and skipper Rizwan continued the momentum into the innings with Sohaib Maqsood. The latter hit two sixes and a four for his innings of 25 and soon perished.
Tim David, who has been in good form, came in and took the bowling apart with six maximums and two fours. The right-hander struck an unbeaten half-century in 19 balls while Rizwan was brilliant from the other end as well for his 82 in just 53 balls. Khusdhil Shah came into the crease at the fall of Rizwan’s wicket and he made a mockery of the bowling with a 7-ball 21, with three massive sixes to take the score to 222/3.
Imran Tahir’s brilliant form continues with the ball
In reply, Hazratullah Zazai and Kamran Akmal had a tough task on hand, and the experienced Akmal could not last long after getting dismissed for just 10. Zazai and Haider Ali did look good for a while at the crease until the latter was dismissed for 24. Zazai continued his stroke play but was eventually dismissed for 43 in 32 balls as the pressure was creeping up. Shoaib Malik and Sherfane Rutherford did not help the cause as wickets fell in lumpsum.
Wahab Riaz and Usman Qadir followed the batters to the pavilion while Ben Cutting was the last hope for the side. The Australian all-rounder managed some lusty blows towards the back end which allowed the side to get to a respectable score but the game was over already. Cutting got to an unbeaten half-century in the end with five sixes in his innings while Imran Tahir proved to be the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 25 in his four-over spell. It was a massive loss for the Peshawar side with a margin of 57 runs.
With the win, the Multan Sultans have kept their unbeaten record going as they have won five in a row now and are looking strong at the top of the table. Peshawar Zalmi will have to look back at where they have been going wrong and they are currently at the fourth position with three losses in five games.
