IPL 2020 auction got underway today in Kolkata with some of the big marquee players set to go under the hammer. And, the first player, who came out for the franchises to grab up was Chris Lynn. The Australian T20 specialist was expected to attract some big bid in the auction but that was never the case as he was bought by Mumbai Indians at a cheap bargain price.
Chris Lynn has emerged as one of the best T20 openers across the globe in the shorter format. He was associated with KKR since 2017 and in the previous season, he amassed 405 runs in his 14 games at a brilliant strike rate of 139.65. KKR released him in the trade window earlier this year in November. In his overall IPL career, Lynn has scored 1280 runs in 41 games with 10 half-centuries at a strike rate of 140.65.
Mumbai Indians gets Chris Lynn at a bargain price
The main reason behind KKR releasing Lynn was because of his injury because of which they had to suffer a lot in the previous seasons. In 2017, he could only feature in seven games and was ruled out after he sustained an injury in his shoulder. However, he came stronger after recovering from his injury and went onto play for various teams in different leagues. Currently, he is the skipper of Brisbane Heat in the ongoing Big Bash League 2019-20.
As soon as Chris Lynn’s name was taken in the auction, Mumbai Indians became active and opened the bidding on him with a price of 2 Cr. However, no other franchises bid over his name and he was bought by the Mumbai Indians. It was a cheeky but a bargain price in which MI bought Lynn because a player of his caliber deserves a better price tag than that he got in the IPL 2020 auction.
Chris Lynn will certainly boost the top order of the Mumbai Indians’ star-studded batting line up that comprises of Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Kock, Kieron Pollard, and Suryakumar Yadav. His attacking game at the top of the order with a career strike rate of 141.12 will surely help them to get some brilliant start at the start of their opening.
The fans were left in awe and stormed social media over the surprising bidding of Chris Lynn to Mumbai at his base price of 2 Crores.
