The game between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI) turned out to be a closely-fought contest. The match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore went right down to the wire. In the end, the visitors held their nerves and won by six runs. Nevertheless, RCB were a tad unlucky as the umpires failed to spot a no-ball in the last ball by Lasith Malinga.
Mumbai Indians rack up a massive score
The Challengers didn’t hesitate to field first after winning the toss and the visiting team put up a significant score of 187 on the board. The openers- Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock– complied an opening stand of 54 runs from 39 balls. Yuzvendra Chahal cleaned up the latter for 23 to break the stand. Rohit threatened with a 33-ball 48, but his prized wicket was taken by Umesh Yadav.
Suryakumar Yadav didn’t flatter to deceive and he contributed with a useful 38 from 24 with four fours and one six. However, it was Yuvraj Singh, who gave the crowd a lot to cheer for with a knock of 23 from 12. The southpaw smacked three sixes in a row off Chahal, who ended up with an impressive four-wicket haul. Hardik Pandya chipped in with 32 from 14 deliveries to propel the visitor’s score.
De Villiers knock in vain
Parthiv Patel and Moeen Alli found the boundaries and added 27 for the first wicket. It was a stupendous direct-hit from Rohit that sent Moeen packing at a score of 13. Thereafter, Virat Kohli took charge and upped the run-rate, taking on premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. But the pacer made amends and dismissed Kohli after he scored 46 from 32 with six awe-inspiring boundaries.
After Virat’s dismissal, the onus was on AB de Villiers to shepherd the team home. The former Proteas batsman strained a little against Mayank Markande, but got into his own and accomplished his half-century in 31 balls. In the last two overs, RCB needed 22 runs and ABD got his team ever so close to the target, but unfortunately, his valiant efforts of 70 runs from 41 balls went in vain.

This is the first time AB de Villiers has remained not out in an unsuccessful chase in IPL!
Before this, he was not out 15 times and every time his team won. #RCBvMI #IPL2019

Sorry.. but umpires are missing too many no balls these days.. time for another umpire on the ground to call no balls! #fedup

They have to sort this out somehow. Difference between a win or a loss.

Malinga’s last ball was a no-ball….BIG one. Umpire missed it. Colossal error. Unbelievable. #RCBvMI #IPL

Whenever there is trouble, eyes move towards Bumrah. And he always delivers. This time the pupil lead the way and the master (Malinga) held his nerve

I’ve been saying this for years . All deliveries should be adjudged by the third umpire . Each and every delivery .

Thrilling win for MI. Superb bowling by Bumrah and Malinga in last 2 overs. Not easy to stymie ABD in full flow. But some luck too with the last delivery, a no ball, not being called!
— Cricketwallah (@cricketwallah) March 28, 2019
Virat tears into the umpires and rightly so. That was a clear clear no ball. And it could have changed this match. Another controversy. Mankading to overlooking the no ball. @IPL in week one has it all.

Hard luck @RCBTweets . Well bowled @Jaspritbumrah93 .

Losing a match with ABD still at the crease. That's how good Bumrah has been.
And Malinga, too.

In a 187 v 182 game, Bumrah finishes with figures of 3/20 from his four overs.
12 of those runs came off three balls.
Bowled to Kohli. Bowled to ABdV.
Got the wicket of Kohli. #IPL2019 #RCBvMI
