The Mumbai Indians finally registered their first win in the 2018 edition of the IPL. After having lost their first three games of the season, the Men in Blue managed to beat the Royal Challengers Bangalore in their fourth game. The sea of blue at the iconic Wankhede Stadium erupted after the home side cruised to an easy win on the day. The visiting side showed no fight in the run chase and their skipper, Virat Kohli, ended up fighting a lone battle.

Earlier in the game, it was Kohli who had won the toss and had opted to bowl first. The decision to bowl first proved to be very good for the visitors as Umesh Yadav bowled a fiery spell first up. Umesh cleaned up Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan on the first two balls of the match. At 0/2, things looked grim for the hosts. Evin Lewis and Rohit Sharma then bailed the team out of the hot waters.

The two batsman not only added runs on the board but also ensured that the early jolts were not deeply felt. They added 108 runs off just 66 deliveries for the third wicket to bring Mumbai Indians back in the game. The partnership was broken when Evin Lewis was dismissed on 65 (42) in the 12th over by Corey Anderson. After Lewis’ departure, Rohit Sharma singlehandedly took the innings along.

Rohit scored a brilliant 94 with the bat and his knock came off just 52 deliveries. The innings was studded with 10 fours and five maximums. He was unfortunate to have missed out on the well deserved century. But his efforts helped MI post 213/6 in their stipulated 20 overs.

In the run chase, Royal Challengers Bangalore hoped for a good start. Their openers, Quinton de Kock and Virat Kohli, added 40 runs on the board to make things look competitive. But once the wicket of De Kock fell, the wickets started falling in clusters. The MI bowlers regularly chipped in wickets and gave no chance to the visitors. The only thing that did not go their way was an injury blow of Ishan Kishan with a throw on the field.

While wickets fell from one end, Virat Kohli held the fort at the other. Kohli remained unbeaten on 92 off 60 deliveries as RCB could only muster 167/8 in their 20 overs. The Mumbai Indians registered their first win of the season and it was by a margin of 46 runs.
