The Wankhede Stadium was graced by the presence of more than 18000 kids owing to the Education for All initiative by the Mumbai Indians. The match also proved to be an intriguing one with Mumbai Indians chasing the target in the last over to get back to the top of the points table.
Earlier in the day, it was Captain Rohit Sharma who won the toss as Mumbai Indians elected to field first. Tim Southee made way for Lasith Malinga in the playing XI. For the Gujarat Lions, Munaf Patel and Jason Roy came into the team. Surprisingly, Aaron Finch missed out because he lost his team kit.
Gujarat Lions didn’t have a great start as Dwayne Smith was dismissed for a duck in the very first over. On the other hand, Brendon McCullum played a fantastic knock of 64 runs from 44 balls with 3 sixes. Captain Suresh Raina didn’t look in sublime touch though as he scored 28(29).
However, it was Dinesh Karthik’s stupendous knock of 48(26)* that made the difference for Gujarat Lions in the end. Jason Roy’s cameo of 14(7)* was crucial in propelling Gujarat’s total to 176/4 in their quota of 20 overs.
Mitchell McClenaghan produced a clinical performance with figures of 2/24. Harbhajan Singh also bowled exceptionally well. On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah and Lasith Malinga were taken away for the cleaners by the batsmen.
Mumbai Indians lost Parthiv Patel in the very first over. However, Nitish Rana who was promoted to No.3 continued his great run as he scored a splendid fifty before getting out. He also came on top of the batting chart in IPL this year for the moment.
Rohit Sharma who hasn’t been in a great form joined the party along with man in form Kieron Pollard as both took Mumbai Indians to victory in the last over. There were moments when it seemed Gujarat could steal it but MI never managed to lose complete control.
Mumbai Indians went on to win the game by 6 wickets and came back to the top of the points table. The Gujarat bowlers were taken apart by the likes of Rana, Pollard and Rohit as they failed to create pressure.

What the fuck is wrong with Buttler? Why is he playing like this? And no, it has got nothing to do with opening.

Praveen Kumar's last 4 balls: wide, wide, wide, 3 wides. This is embarrassing. #MIvsGL

Roy bahadur plays a reverse sweep first ball. He has had enough of this IPL.

Dinesh Karthik playing a blinder. Chasing 175+ will be a task even on home turf for Mumbai
