Another day and another win for Bangladesh! This home season has certainly been memorable for the Bangla Tigers. After thrashing Australia 4-1, Bangladesh continued their sensational run against New Zealand. The Mahmudullah-led side walked away with a six-wicket triumph in the fourth T20I and clinched the five-match series 3-1. Notably, this was Bangladesh’s first-ever series win over New Zealand in the shortest international format.
Speaking of the proceedings of the game, New Zealand won the toss in the do-or-die contest and elected to bat at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. The decision proved to be horrific as the visitors lost wickets at regular intervals. Left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed made the new ball talk and ran through New Zealand’s top order.
Except for Will Young, no other Kiwi batter could show application as the home team had the momentum throughout the game. While Nasum Ahmed shone in the early overs, Mustafizur Rahman spitted venom with the old ball. The left-arm pacer continued the tale of falling wickets, making sure New Zealand don’t make any sort of comeback.

He also got a four-wicket haul as the Kiwis got skittled out for 93. While Young scored a 48-ball 46, Finn Allen (12) and Tom Latham (21) were the only two other Kiwis to get into double figures. Although the target seemed mediocre, Bangladesh have to put a significant effort to get over the line. Big guns like Liton Das, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Shakib Al Hasan were dismissed inside the powerplay overs as Bangladesh found themselves reduced to 32/3.
However, skipper Mahmudullah came to the rescue once again and dented New Zealand’s plans. With the target not being a massive one, the veteran was watchful at the crease but also maintained a significant scoring rate. He, in total, scored 43 off 48 balls and remained unbeaten till the end.
Riding on his efforts, Bangladesh crossed the line in 19.1 overs, winning the game by six wickets. Nasum Ahmed was named the Player of the Match for his splendid spell. With Bangladesh sealing the series, the fifth and last T20I is a mere dead rubber. However, the Blackcaps have pride to play for. Meanwhile, the last game will be played on Friday (September 10).
Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitterati celebrated Bangladesh’s success:
