In what was a phenomenal fightback by the Australian team after being one down in the series, Glenn Maxwell finished off things in style with a maximum, enabling the visitors to level the series 1-1. The match ended in the final session on Day 4. The day began with Australia losing Nathan Lyon without any addition to their yesterday’s tally. Mustafizur Rahman accounted for the wicket as the Australians were bundled for 377 runs with a lead of 72 runs over the Bangladesh side.

The hosts needed to bat well to post a winning target ahead of the Aussies. However, it was a quite dismal show by the Bangladeshi batsmen. The opening duo was back in the pavilion with just 32 runs on the board. The batting order faltered further as the likes of Imrul Kayes, Nasir Hossain and star all rounder Shakib Al Hasan failed to make a difference.

At 43/5, it seemed Bangladesh were staring a definite defeat. That’s when skipper Mushfiqur Rahim and Sabbir Rahman put up a half century stand to help the hosts garner a lead. However, the duo didn’t last long as the Bangladesh side could only manage a total of 157 in the second innings, thus setting a target of just 86 for the visitors.

Nathan Lyon was almost unplayable and ended with stupendous bowling figures of 6/60. On the other hand, Steve O’Keefe and Pat Cummins also got a couple of wickets each. The splendid bowling in the first two sessions shifted the momentum of the game towards the Australians.

In the chase, they lost David Warner early but continued to accelerate. Skipper Steve Smith and Matt Renshaw were also dismissed later but the target was too less to pose any kind of threat. Glenn Maxwell eventually took them to the win with a six as they bagged the match by 7 wickets.
