Team New Zealand handed another comfortable defeat to the home team West Indies after winning the second T20I encounter by a margin of 90 runs played at Sabina Park, Jamaica on August 12 (Friday). Glenn Phillips was simply excellent with the bat and he was adjudged player of the match.
Talking about the match, the Blackcaps won the toss and opted to have a bat first. The Kiwi side had a good start as their openers Martin Guptill and Devon Conway stitched 31 runs in just 3.3 overs before Guptill was scalped by the Obed McCoy. However, Conway went on to score 42 runs.
Skipper Kane Williamson failed to get going as he scored just four runs in two deliveries before getting scalped by McCoy. However, Phillips and Daryl Mitchell absolutely thrashed the Men in Maroon bowlers as the Kiwi side easily crossed the 200-run mark in their allotted 20 overs.
Phillips scored 76 off just 41 balls, while Mitchell smashed 48 runs off just 20 balls including two fours and four maximums. For the home team, McCoy took three wickets but gave away 40 runs in his four overs quota.
New Zealand bamboozled the West Indies batting line-up
Chasing a big total of 200+ runs, West Indies had the worst possible start. Openers Kyle Mayer and Shamarh Brooks could not even cross the double digit-mark with the bat. Similarly, skipper Nicholas Pooran and the wicketkeeper-batter Devon Thomas were also scalped early.
Senior batter Shimron Hetmyer, Rovman Powell, and Jason Holder tried to bring their team back to the contest but it was too late. The Kiwi side kept taking wickets at regular intervals as the home team finished on 125/9 in their allotted 20 overs. To note, McCoy was the highest run-scorer for his side after scoring 23 runs off 15 balls.
For New Zealand, spinner Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell scalped three wickets each. Senior pacer Tim Southee and leg-spinner Ish Sodhi also scalped one wicket each for their team.
