Twitter Reactions on New Zealand’s outstanding win in the semi final of the world cup 2015: 24-3-2015 will be remembered in the history of New Zealand cricket for the day a squad from the country qualified for the final of an ICC Cricket World Cup for the first time. But it was not until the final ball of the last over that we knew who would win the contest. If something is nail biting it was that, if excitement has a meaning everyone watching the New Zealand vs South Africa semi final understood it.
The match started well for South Africa batting first after the early jitters got stability to the innings with Faf du Plesis and AB de Villiers not only steadying the ship but also holding anchor of the proceedings. At the stage they were looking good for something in access of 350 the rain gods decided to open up.
The showers took time to settle away and the Duckworth Lewis (D/L) method was used to revise South Africa’s 281-5 in 43 over’s to 297 in 50 over’s as the target for the home team to chase.
A blazing start to the innings from Brendon McCullum and Martin Guptil set the Kiwi’s up for this chase with 59 and 34 respectively. The South African bowlers certainly pulled things up once the two were out. But a really strong, confident middle order got Black Caps the control of the match. Corey Anderson’s 58 was one of the most decisive knocks.
Grant Elliott was the man of the day for New Zealand; he stood there till the end as the match flew into the final moments, a nail biting, thriller was undecided till the very last over, NZ needed 15 to win from 6 and Dale Steyn was the bowler. Daniel Vettori plucked a four from a wide Yorker, singles stolen and it was 6 needed from 2 balls to win it with Elliott on strike.
He shifted himself deeper into the crease pulled Dale Steyn off for a huge huge, world cup final qualification. An amazing match of cricket but in the end South Africa could not get their tag undone and will be down themselves more than letting anyone down.
A superb win, a cricket fan could ask for nothing more than such enthralling action fitting by every standard to be the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 semi finals.
Here are the best, ultimate tweets on New Zealand’s win, South Africa’s yet another knock out elimination.
Gotta feel for the South Africans…they would’ve won this one if it wasn’t for the rain break. Played like champions. Well done!

“The better team won” says AB Devilliers. Dear Bangladeshis, learn something. He could have blamed DL method. #NZvsSA
