For the first time in the Mzansi Super League (MSL) 2018, the Cape Town Blitz have tasted defeat. After winning four games in a row, the side was looking to keep the winning streak going against Paarl Rocks as well. But, Bjorn Fortunin, Dane Paterson and Faf du Plessis didn’t let them realise this dream. In their home ground, the Paarl Rocks comprehensively won the match by five wickets.
Bjorn Fortunin turns it around with the ball
Cape Town Blitz would have eyed at something around 170 after choosing to bat first. Quinton de Kock, yet again, provided the side with a good start and raced to 31 off 16 balls. However, Jannerman Malan, who usually anchors the innings and accelerates, later on, suffered a rare failure and got out after he crawled his way to 29.
Andile Phehlukwayo was in at three. He looked impressive as he scored 24 off 16 balls but failed to convert his good start. Once he and Malan got out, the middle-order capitulated. Feriso Adams was the highest scorer with 12 runs amongst the other batsmen as no one else even got to 10. The side was eventually bowled out for 140 in 20 overs. Bjorn Fortunin picked up four wickets while Dane Paterson picked three.
Faf du Plessis leads from the front in the chase
There was something special that was required to defeat a team like the Blitz. Dale Steyn was on fire right in the first over that he bowled in the innings. He sent both the openers backpacking in the same over and put some pressure on the opposition. But, skipper Faf du Plessis decided to take the onus upon himself after the early wickets.
He played an excellent knock of 54 which came off 39 balls. Vaughn van Jaarsveld and Mangaliso Mosehele, with 32 and 28 runs respectively, helped take the team home with five wickets and seven balls remaining.
The Cape Town Blitz fans were heartbroken to see their team lose after the dream start in the tournament. But, many backed them to come back hard in the next games. Twitterati was left in awe with Bjorn Fortunin’s bowling and also praised Dane Paterson and Faf du Plessis for their contributions.

Wonder how much of Aiden Markram opening the bowling for @Paarl_Rocks is Faf du Plessis having a look at him in a difficult situation with the World Cup in mind. Probably not, but it does cross the mind #MSLT20
