As the 4th and final Test of the series between India and West Indies is washed out, Pakistan rise to the top spot in Test rankings for the first time since 2003.

Nonetheless, this is surely a moment for the Pakistan Cricket to be felt proud of. They rose to No.2 ranking after squaring the Test series against the host England. India would have remained at the no.1 spot, if they beat West Indies in the fourth Test match.

“The past few weeks of Test cricket have been incredibly absorbing with some high-quality competitive series being played, exhibiting what is so special about Test cricket,” says the ICC Chief Executive.

Pakistan skipper is delighted to lead the side to top the ranking charts. “There is no greater feeling than to achieve the number-one ranking in the most traditional and purest format of the sport. This is what cricketers play for and want to achieve in their careers,” he said.

“Number-one ranking is a reward for something we had planned as a group a few years ago and have worked extremely hard to achieve it. To top the Test table, which boasts some of the best sides and players, is something to be very proud of,” he added.

The ICC ranking system will take into account the matches played over the last 4 years for finding the rankings. And in the current cycle, matches played from May 2013 to May 2015 carry 50% weightage, while matches played since then carry 100% weightage.
