West Indies started day 3 with two new batsmen at the crease both Devendra Bishoo and Jermaine Blackwood were yet to open their account with the team total of 106 for the loss of 4 wickets. Pakistan pacer Rahat Ali who had done well on the second day got them an early wicket today and ended Blackwoods stay at the crease. Bishoo held his end for 66 balls and scored 20 runs but was bowled by Sohail Khan.
Roston Chase and Shai Hope the next two batsmen were also dismissed cheaply for 20 and 11 runs respectively as leg-spinner Yasir Shah got into the act for Pakistan. West Indies skipper Jason Holder tried to take the team total past 200 and into the 250s but fell short of partners as he remained unbeaten on 31 while they were bowled out for 224 handing Pakistan a 228-run lead. Yasir finished with four wickets in his account while Rahat Ali had 3 and Sohail bagged a couple.
In their second inning, the Pakistani openers got the team off to a great start as both Sami Aslam and Azhar Ali scored half centuries. They almost had a hundred runs partnership as Aslam got to his half century and the West Indies bowlers were still looking for a breakthrough in the second inning. The duo looked pretty well set and in a position to take them to stumps without losing a wicket a few overs ahead of stumps Aslam was dismissed by Windies pacer Shannon Gabriel for 50 having hit five boundaries in his knock.
Azhar also reached the half century mark before the close of play and walked back unbeaten on 52 from 102 balls including a couple of boundaries. Asad Shafiq accompanied him having batted for 23 balls for his 5 runs. Pakistan have a 342 runs lead which can definitely win them the game given the strength in their bowling and the fragility in West Indies batting.
Here is how Twitter reacted during day 3 of the 2nd Test:
