Twitter Reactions: Pakistan skittle Bangladesh out to 1-0 series lead
Naseem Shah and Yasir Shah starred with the ball in the second innings with four wickets each.
At the fag end of Day three, Naseem Shah ran riot with a Test hat-trick against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi. Prior to the fourth day’s play, the writing was pretty much on the walls for the Tigers. It took a mere 17.5 overs for Pakistan to bowl Bangladesh out and win by an innings and 44 runs. Subsequently, they took a 1-0 lead in the series and also added 60 points to the Test championship.
Shaheen Afridi starts the carnage
Bangladesh got off to the worst possible start on the penultimate day. Left-arm fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi got rid of the well-set Mominul Haque in the very first over of the day. Mominul started with a boundary before being trapped in front by Shaheen. The Tigers’ captain used the DRS, but to no avail. Haque was Bangladesh’s top scorer in the innings with 41 off 93, laced with five fours.
Rubel Hossain tried to stave off the bowling and played out 26 balls. But it was only a matter of time after which Mohammad Abbas pinned him. Meanwhile, Liton Das showed some fight in the middle. He looked at ease in the first innings and looked in ominous touch even in the second. Nevertheless, he was seeming to fight a losing cause. He scored 29 off 59 with the help of four fours and one six.
Yasir Shah wraps things up
Liton got going with a boundary off Abbas and then he tried to take on Yasir Shah, smashing him for a six over the deep mid-wicket. But he played one shot too many and fell prey to the sweep shot itself. The on-field umpire gave him not out, but Pakistan resorted to taking the DRS. Replays showed that the ball was crashing on to the leg and middle-stump and the decision was reversed.
Shah remained wickeless in the first innings and the wicket would have given him a lot of confidence. Thereafter, the tweaker cleaned up Abu Jayed Rahi to seal the fate of the encounter. Jayed went for a wild slog and Asad Shafiq took a good catch, running backwards. With the victory, Pakistan are placed fourth in the table in the Championship and are six points behind England.
