Twitter Reactions: Perth Scorchers lift their 3rd BBL title
Having dominated their opponents right through the Big Bash League (BBL) season 6 the Perth Scorchers continued their dominance in the final as well. The Sixers from Sydney hardly had an answer to the challenges from the Scorchers bowlers. Mitchell Johnson was brilliant once again and so were Jye Richardson and Tim Bresnan. They didn’t let the Sixers batsmen get going and restricted them to an under-par total that they chased down in 15.5 overs without much ado.
Ashton Turner and Mitchell Johnson kept things really tight to start and sent back Daniel Hughes and Michael Lumb for 8 and 5 respectively. Nick Maddinson could just add one before being run out. At 71/3 in 3 overs, the Sixers started off in a nightmarish fashion in the big night of the final. Skipper Moises Henriques and Brad Haddin then played resistive knocks of 21 and 38 respectively but that didn’t guarantee them a substantial total.
Johan Botha’s 32 in the lower order took them to 141 for 9 in 20 overs. A total that was certainly never going to be enough to challenge the Scorchers. Openers Sam Whiteman and Michael Klinger had a flying start and added 75 runs for the first wicket in 7.3 overs before Nathan Lyon broke the partnership as Haddin stumped Whiteman. But their English recruit Ian Bell walked out and was business. Klinger scored another assuring half century – 71 from 49 balls with five 4s and five 6s and Bell’s 31 from 25 took them home in less than 16 overs and with 9 wickets in hand.
This is Perth’s 3rd Big Bash title having qualified for the final for a record 5th time in six seasons. Pacer Jye Richardson who had figures of 3/30 was named the man of the match of the final while Brisbane Heat batsman Chris Lynn was awarded the Player of the tournament.
