Twitter Reactions: Perth Scorchers register a big win over Thunders

The second match of the day in the BBL 2016-17 was completely dominated by the Perth Scorchers at their home ground WACA as the Sydney Thunders conceded the game by a big 50 runs margin. Thunders skipper Shane Watson won the toss and decided to bowl first. They were looking to chase down a target set ahead of them in their first match of 2017.
Watson would have been pleased with his decision as fast bowler Clint McKay got them the breakthrough in the very first over sending back the opener Shaun Marsh. But they had no further success in the first half of the innings as Michale Clinger and Ian Bell got together for a stabilising partnership. Having tried five bowling options Watson finally brought himself into the attack and the job was done.
He removed the dangerous looking Klinger for 38 as he was caught by Cummins. Bell then had another partnership with Mitchell Marsh but was stumped five short of his half century on a delivery from Green. Adam Voges’ brief stay at the crease was dramatic with stumping attempts and he pulled his hamstring while attempting a slog sweep only to retire hurt. AJ Turner added 20 runs to the Scorchers total while Marsh remained unbeaten on 44 at the end to end the inning on 177 which wasn’t huge but looked competitive at the half way mark.
Sydney never really got going in the chase and the fall of wickets that started on the 4th ball of the 3rd over continued right through their innings at regular intervals and no batsman settled at the crease to get them on track to overhaul the target.

English limited-overs specialist David Willey was the pick of the bowlers as he scalped two wickets in a single over; he finished with 2/21 in his 4 overs. The fact that pacer Pat Cummins was the highest scorer in the inning with 39 is enough to suggest how well they batted. In the end, having lost 8 wickets they finished the game 50 runs short of the target on 127.
