The 2nd ODI between India and West Indies took place in Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad and hosts walked away with the series while winning the contest by 44 runs. Winning the toss, the West Indies side chose to invite the men in blue for the willow show first. The Indian side moved in the contest by taking in KL Rahul who replaced young Ishan Kishan in the side while visitors entered the contest without the services of regular skipper Kieron Pollard.
The full-time skipper Rohit Sharma was yet again expected to give the side a flying start but his stay was cut short by Kemar Roach at five runs. In a surprising turn of events, Rishabh Pant walked in to open for India but went off without contributing much after collecting 18 runs. Virat Kohli’s wait for his 71st century continued yet again as he showed his back after having scored 18 runs.
However, the bright spot in India’s batting setup were innings played by KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav. While Rahul had to go back following a confusion with Suryakumar after scoring 49 runs, the latter shined up as he brought a stunning half-century (64 off 83) on the table. All-rounder Deepak Hooda added a vital contribution towards the end as he smashed 29 off 25 balls to push India post 237 runs on the board.

In the end, margin of win is big but after first innings it didn’t look that result will be as easy. Well played India and congratulations to Rohit for a winning start! #CricketTwitter

This is the only 2nd instance in the last 10 years where a target below 240 runs been successfully defended in ODIs in India involving India.
India defended 167 vs Pakistan in 2013 in Delhi.
Today India defended 237 against Westindies in Ahmedabad#INDvWI— Harshi 🦋 (@harshitha_45) February 9, 2022
