Twitter Reactions: Prithvi Shaw slams a 61-ball ton against Railways in Vijay Hazare Trophy
He was dismissed for 129 off just 81 deliveries as Mumbai scored 400 runs in 50 overs.
While all the focus is on the ongoing Asia Cup and more on the marquee clash between India and Pakistan, the budding cricketers are fighting it out in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. It goes without saying that Prithvi Shaw has set the stage on fire with the bat in three matches he has played so far. His latest knock of 129 runs off just 81 deliveries against the Railways has been the best which has propelled Mumbai to a total of 400 in fifty overs.
After opting to bat first on a flat pitch, Mumbai lost their skipper Ajinkya Rahane early in the sixth over. But by the time, he was dismissed his partner and the upcoming Indian sensation was already in the 20s and was looking in amazing touch. Despite the fall of a wicket, his style of batting didn’t change and Shaw continued to attack the bowlers with authority.
Iyer supported Shaw well
Shreyas Iyer, meanwhile, played second fiddle to Prithvi Shaw and enjoyed his blistering batting from the other end. Shaw unfurled all the strokes in his kitty during his stay in the middle and made the opposition look hapless in no time. Soon, he reached his first three-figure mark this season after missing out on the last two occasions. He got to his ton only in 61 deliveries and looked even more dangerous after that.
However, his bright knock was cut short by Prashant Awasthi in the 26th over when Mumbai‘s score read 187 and the partnership of 160 runs was broken. Shaw was dismissed on 129 runs off 81 balls with as many as 14 fours and six hits over the ropes. With his current form, it seems that the youngster will make it to Indian ODI squad soon.
He is currently the second highest run-getter in the tournament with 287 runs to his name in three outings at a brilliant average of 95.66 and the strike-rate of 143.50. Twitterati has one eye on him all the time and was thrilled with his form with the bat so far.
