The second Test of the India – Sri Lanka series kicked off in Colombo. It turned out to be a repeat of what had happened throughout the first Test. India continued to dominate with the bat as the Sri Lankan bowlers toiled hard in the field on Day 1.

Earlier in the day, it was captain Virat Kohli who won the toss as India elected to bat first. They made a single change as KL Rahul was back after a prolonged absence due to injury. On the other hand, the hosts made as many as three changes. Malinda Pushpakumar, Dhananjaya de Silva and Dinesh Chandimal were back to the side.

Coming out to bat, Shikhar Dhawan looked in splendid form. He batted brilliantly before he was trapped leg before wicket by Dilruwan Perera. His opening partner Rahul, on the other hand, raced to a superb half century on a comeback to the national side. Skipper Kohli was dismissed cheaply as India were reduced to 133/3.

What followed was two of the best Test batsmen of this Indian team, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane taking things in their control. Pujara scored his second consecutive century as he was batting on a magnificent 128 runs not out, a knock that had 10 boundaries and a surprise six. Rahane also brought up his ninth Test century as the day proceeded to end as he stayed not out on 103.

Both stitched an unbeaten 211-run partnership for the third wicket and still seem to be going strong. Team India ended the day on a stupendous 344/3 at stumps.

For Sri Lanka, it was another dull day in the series. Rangana Herath and Dilruwan Perera were the only wicket takers as the rest of them failed to create any kind of impact. With close to 350 runs on the board, the Indian team would be eyeing another score something around 600. On the other end, Sri Lanka would look forward to early dismissals of Pujara and Rahane tomorrow.
