Twitter Reactions: Quinton de Kock propels Southern Brave to second after annihilating Northern Superchargers
After the game, De Kock said that the pitch in Southampton wasn't an easy one for batting.
Prior to their game against Northern Superchargers, the Southern Brave were placed sixth in the points table. However, on Saturday, August 7, they won by five wickets with five balls left. With the triumph, the Brave jumped four places up to second in the table with a net run rate of -0.262.
Vilas guides the Superchargers
The Superchargers didn’t make a great start as George Garton pinned Adam Lyth in the very first ball. Thereafter, Chris Lynn’s 26 and David Willey’s 24 helped the team inject some impetus into the innings. Danny Briggs, who replaced Liam Dawson, castled Willey in the 48th ball.
Lynn got out to Chris Jordan. Harry Brook scored 14 before Jake Lintott him up. However, it was Dane Vilas’ unbeaten 24-ball 35 with a four and six apiece that lifted the Superchargers to 128 for six. Ben Raine’s 13-ball 18 also helped their cause. Briggs picked up two wickets.
Quinton de Kock stands tall
Paul Stirling and Quinton de Kock got the Brave off to a thunderous start, thanks to a 36-run stand of 21 balls. After Brydon Carse removed Stirling for 20, Adil Rashid castled James Vince, the opposition skipper. However, De Kock and Alex Davies’ 48-run stand put the Brave on the driver’s seat.
Ross Whiteley and Colin de Grandhomme couldn’t get into the double digits. But De Kock carried on and stayed unbeaten on a 45-ball 72 with nine fours and one six. Jordan also smashed a six in his seven-ball 10 to lend De Kock the required support at the fag end of the game.
The bowlers have been pretty good throughout the tournament: James Vince
After the victory, De Kock said that the pitch wasn’t easy to bat on as the spinners were getting a lot of grip. Vince also lauded his bowlers, especially Briggs for picking up the two crucial wickets.
“As the ball got older, it was taking more grip. Just glad we got over the line. It’s more of a feel thing. What type of shots you can play; I just adjust my shots to that. On a wicket like this, I just play straighter. Bowlers did a really good job. We thought it was a par score. But we didn’t realise how difficult it was. Just helping the team get over the line feels good,” De Kock said.
“The bowlers have been pretty good throughout the tournament; tonight, was no different. The pitch was a lot different. Last week, we had pace and bounce … today more change of pace and cutters into the pitch. Dawson breaking his finger last game and Briggs coming in, he’s a high-class bowler. Nice for him to get an opportunity,” Vince said.
