Bangladesh came into the day being on the front foot. After the end of the third day’s play in Chattogram, Mominul Haque and Co have further tightened the screws. The home team is leading by 218 runs with seven wickets left in their second innings. With two days left at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Bangladesh would be hoping to extend their lead to a significant extent.
Blackwood and Brathwaite score fifties
Going to the third day’s play, Kraigg Brathwaite was standing one run short of a half-century. Along with him was Nkrumah Bonner, who had also gotten his eyes in. But very early on the day, Taijul Islam removed the latter. But Brathwaite and Kyle Mayers steadied the ship with a partnership of 55 runs. Then it was Nayeem Hasan’s turn to weave magic as he got rid of Brathwaite, who scored 76.
Mayers perished soon after scoring 40, becoming Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s first victim. But Jermaine Blackwood and Joshua Da Silva steadied the ship with a partnership of 99 runs for the sixth wicket. Da Silva was the more patient of the two and it was Blackwood, who did the bulk of the scoring. But once their stand was broken, the West Indies batting lineup collapsed, getting bowled out for 259.
Mehidy stands out for Bangladesh
In the 93rd over, Nayeem removed Da Silva for a 141-ball 42 to separate the duo. In the very next over, Blackwood fell prey to Mehidy. The lower order couldn’t show any semblance of resistance whatsoever. Mehidy, after standing out with the bat, was Bangladesh’s standout performer with the ball as well. The tweaker picked up four wickets. The Tigers amassed a massive lead of 171 runs.
After an excellent show with the ball in hand, the hosts got off to the worst possible start in their first innings. Rahkeem Cornwall wreaked havoc, getting rid of Tamim Iqbal and Najmul Hossain Shanto, who both couldn’t open their account.
Shadman Islam was circumspect as he took nearly 30 balls to open his account. But after scoring five runs off 42 balls, he edged one off Shannon Gabriel. Mominul held the fort, staying unbeaten on 31 runs off 47 deliveries. Along with him is Mushfiqur Rahim, who stayed unbeaten on 10 runs.

Meanwhile Cornwall has taken two wickets. Wish West Indies would have scored atleast 350 runs. It would have been a good fight back. Now though two quick wickets have fallen but Bangladesh is leading by 183!! #BANvWI
