Twitter Reactions: Rahmat Shah and Ihsanullah Janat lead Afghanistan to their first ever win in Tests
Ireland fought hard and had their moments throughout the game, but Afghanistan were clinical when it mattered the most.

Ireland’s last wicket partnership had given them a glimmer of hope late on the third day. Like the first innings, Tim Murtagh batted beautifully and stitched a vital 58-run stand along with James Cameron-Dow to set a tricky target of 147 runs in the fourth innings. But Ihsanullah Janat and Rahmat Shah showed amazing composure in the chase as Afghanistan created history to register their maiden Test win only in their second game of the format.
After losing Mohammad Shahzad early on Day three, the match was poised interestingly. Ireland were hoping to turn things around on the fourth day amidst the blossoming partnership between Rahmat and Janat. Things could’ve gone either way if the visitors had struck early in the morning. But it wasn’t to be. Both the overnight batsmen kept their calm and made sure that there was no first innings-like collapse.
Rahmat, especially, was at his best weathering the storm. He backed up his 98 in the first essay with yet another half-century. Janat, on the other hand, played a vital hand as well and also notched up his first half-century in the whites. Though Ireland would rue a dropped chance when he was on 18. George Dockrell had created a chance but Stuart Thompson fluffed an easy chance.
Ireland go down fighting
The final scorecard will never give a fair reflection of the way Ireland fought in the alien conditions in Dehradun. But the 139-run partnership for the second wicket between Rahmat and Janat gave a famous win for Afghanistan in the end. Rahmat and Mohammad Nabi fell with the victory well within sight. Eventually, it was Hashmatullah Shahidi who got the winnings runs for the team.
It turned out to be a memorable game for Afghanistan as they joined the likes of England and Pakistan in terms of tasting their maiden victory in the Tests. Rahmat Shah was named the Man of the Match for his twin fifties while Rashid Khan and Asghar Afghan also played their role in the win.

At a lovely ground, we saw two of the loveliest teams take on each other. Balbirnie's chase of the ball to save a boundary showed why cricket will always survive when players like them at around – they won't give up till the very end. Long live cricket, and cheers! #AFGvIRE pic.twitter.com/kOqboAqBeE

Would be interesting to see Rahmat Shah end up becoming Afghanistan's first Test centurion some day. He was the first player to bag a 5-wicket haul in ODI cricket for Afghanistan (5/32 vs UAE, 2014). #AFGvIRE
