As Dinesh Bana struck the ball over Long On and the cherry landed past the boundary ropes, all the India U19 players rushed out to celebrate. It was a special moment for the entire country, as the India U19 side beat the England U19 side in the final of the tournament to lift the Under19 World Cup title for a record 5th time.
Batting first, the England U19 side put up a shoddy show with the bat. Such was the poor state of affairs that apart from James Rew, who scored a fighting 116-ball 95, not even a single batter could even cross the 40-run mark.
Also, as many as 6 England batters failed to score in double digits as well. For India, Raj Bawa and Ravi Kumar sizzled with the ball. While Bawa scalped 5 wickets, Ravi Kumar chipped in with a four-wicket haul, as the England U19 side was bowled out for a total of 189.
Shaik Rasheed and Nishant Sindhu help India past the finish line
India started their run chase in shaky fashion, as they lost their opener, Angkrish Raghucanshi for a duck. However, Harnoor Singh and Shaik Rasheed steadied the ship with a 49-run stand. Yash Dhull then contributed 17 runs, but could not kick on and get a big score.
Then, came the crucial stand between Raj Bawa and Nishant Sindhu. The two combined to put on a critical 67-run partnership for the 5th wicket. Sindhu scored a half-century for the Yash Dhull led side.
Raj Bawa scored a 54-ball 35 to put the match out of England’s grasp, as India romped home with 14 balls in their kitty. For the England side, the likes of Joshua Boyden, James Sales, and Thomas Aspinwall scalped 2 wickets apiece. Raj Bawa walked away with the Player of the Match award for his sensational all-round performance in the final.

Covid hit their camp during the WC and at one point had only 12 to choose from. Yet the intensity didn't drop amidst adversity. Won every game, that too clinically. Proud of the team.
