Twitter Reactions: Rajasthan Royals stun RCB in Bengaluru run fest
Rajasthan Royals beat the Royal Challengers Bangalore by 19 runs.
The stage was all set at the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru for the royal derby of the season. The Royal Challengers Bangalore hosted the Rajasthan Royals in the big game. The match was the green game of the season for the home side. Coming to the game, both sides had the winning momentum in their favor. The Royals had beaten the Delhi Daredevils in their previous game, which was a rain curtailed game.
On the other hand, the Royal Challengers Bangalore had beaten the Kings XI Punjab in their previous game, which was a home game for them. Certainly, there were no favorites to pick but everyone believed that the hosts had an upper hand in the game. However, as things turned out on the day, the RCB team choked yet again and their batters failed to live up to the occasion.
Chasing a mammoth total of 217, the RCB team looked well in course of the chase at the half way stage. RCB skipper Virat Kohli hit his fastest IPL fifty and looked like commanding the run chase. However, once he was dismissed on 57 (30), the innings lost the anchor. AB de Villiers did not make an impact in the game as he had done in the previous game. Mandeep Singh and Washington Sundar tried till the very end but only to see RCB falling short by 19 runs.
Earlier in the game, the Rajasthan Royals were asked to bat first after Virat Kohli had won the toss. They got off to a decent start with Ajinkya Rahane hitting some quick runs in the powerplay. After his dismissal, Sanju Samson took charge of the innings. Samson remained unbeaten on 92 with 10 sixes and a couple of fours to his name. His efforts, combined with the cameos of Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes, propelled the RR total to 217.
In the run chase, K Gowtham dismissed Brendon McCullum in the very first over. Virat Kohli and Quinton de Kock added 77 runs for the second wicket to keep the game going. But once they were dismissed, the task looked a little too much to overhaul. Shreyas Gopal accounted for the two big dismissals in the game – AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli.
