After the unbelievable fightback in the last match, Ireland stumbled in the 4th ODI conceding Afghanistan a lead in the series. The hosts defeated the visitors by a massive margin of 109 runs finishing the vengeance act after the loss in the 3rd ODI. Mohammad Nabi, Aftab Alam along with Rashid Khan and Asghar Afghan had massive roles to play in this win.
The track wasn’t easy to bat on. While life gets easier after spending some time out in the middle, most of the batsmen failed to do exactly that. But Nabi along with Afghan and Rashid applied themselves beautifully on the tricky surface. With one more game to go, the Asian team will push for the series win.
The senior players come to the rescue for Afghanistan
Afghanistan was put into bat first by the opposition in this match and misery struck them early. Their top-order collapsed within a short span of time and they were in all sorts of trouble. At 81/6 at one stage within 20 overs, it never seemed as if the Afghan team will get to a respectable total. But, skipper Asghar Afghan took the onus upon himself.
He compiled 54 runs which came off 70 balls. But, at the time when he got out, the score was 131/7 and the team was still in trouble. At this stage, Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan joined hands to stitch together a wonderful partnership. While Nabi mustered 64, Rashid raced his way to 52. They innings helped the team get to 223 runs in 49.1 overs before they were bundled out.
Aftab Alam fires with the ball as Ireland collapse
Ireland had a decent start to the chase as the opener put up 31 runs on the board. But, the team ended up losing three wickets in a span of eight deliveries and their decline started from there. Simi Singh and Kevin O’Brien tried hard to build a partnership. But they failed in their attempts and Singh was first dismissed for 20.
From 90/5, the team was reduced to 96/9 as Aftab Alam was absolutely on fire. His four-wicket haul helped bowl the opposition out for just 114 runs. Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid Khan picked up two wickets each while Nabi and Gulbadin Naib accounted for one each.
For his all-round heroics, Rashid Khan was awarded the ‘Man of the Match’. Twitterati couldn’t keep calm after watching the leg-spinner do so well. The Sunrisers Hyderabad’s fans were delighted to see two of their gun players do so well.
Here is how Twitterati reacted:
