Adelaide Strikers recorded their first win in Big Bash League (BBL) 2021-22, thrashing Adelaide Strikers by 49 runs in their latest fixture. It was a low-scoring affair with the Adelaide track favouring the bowlers. Having got bundled out for 149 while batting first, the Kane Richardson-led side didn’t look in a comfortable position by any means. However, sensational spells from Rashid Khan and Wes Agar helped the Strikers crossed the line pretty comfortably.
Earlier in the game, Adelaide Strikers won the toss and opted to bat first at the Adelaide Oval. Openers Matthew Short and Jake Weatherald showed positive intent early in the innings and attacked bowlers from the outset. However, things changed after Weatherald fell prey to James Pattinson with 34 runs on the board.
Skipper Kane Richardson and Reece Topley made the ball talk and took wickets at regular intervals. While seven of Adelaide’s top-eight batters entered double figures, none of them could play a substantial knock. Jonathan Wells top-scored for Strikers with a 30-ball 37 while Short (32) was the only other batter to cross the 20-run mark from his side. As a result, the Peter Siddle-led side got skittled out for 149 in 19 overs.

Chasing the modest-looking total, Melbourne Renegades got off to a steady start with Sam Harper and Mackenzie Harvey adding 39 runs for the first wicket. However, Strikers’ middle-order couldn’t come to the party either. As a result, the likes of James Seymour and Jonathan Merlo were dismissed in quick succession. Rashid Khan was wrecker-in-chief in the middle-overs as he took some important wickets at the top.
Right-arm pacer Wes Agar also joined the party and broke the spine of Melbourne’s batting line-up with a three-wicket haul. As a result, the Melbourne-based side got bundled out for 100, losing the contest by 49 runs. Meanwhile, this was Strikers open their accounts in the points table and would like to extend their sensational run. On the other hand, the Renegades must verify their mistakes to put up a better show in upcoming clashes.
Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitterati reacted to Melbourne Renegades’ staggering win!

Without looking at stats it'd have to be the rarest of T20's where all 20 wickets fall #BBL11

I wanted to make a joke about "Renegades and getting bowled out for double figures, name a better duo" but they wouldn't even let me have that. Insipid batting performance. Again. AGAIN. #BBL11
