Sydney Sixers locked horns with Adelaide Strikers in the 27th match of Big Bash League 2019-20. The game between the two heavyweights was full of ups and downs but in the end, Sixers outclasses Strikers by a margin of two wickets at Adelaide Oval as they managed to win their sixth game in BBL 2019-20. Even, Rashid Khan’s brilliant bowling effort was futile in the low-scoring encounter.

Sydney Sixers elected to bowl after winning the toss and got off to a good start on the back of some impressive performance from their bowlers. Their fast bowler Jackson Bird dismissed the Strikers’ in-form opener Philip Salt in the second over of the innings. The right-handed batsman attempted to play over the covers but he missed the ball that went into keepers glove while taking a thick edge of his bat.

Mathew Short also failed to click a good knock with the bat and he was dismissed off Ben Dwarshuis in the fourth over of the innings. It also left the hosts struggling on a score of 40 runs with the loss of three wickets. However, brilliant knocks from Alex Carey (32 runs off 30 balls) and Jake Weatherald ( 47 runs off 31 balls) helped their side in posting a competitive total of 135 runs in stipulated 20 overs.

Tom Curran turned out to be the best bowler for his side as he managed to restrict and dismiss Stirkers batsmen in the match. He recorded brilliant bowling figures of 4/22 and was well supported by his teammates from the other end.

Coming onto the chase, Sixers got off to a worse possible start as they lost their openers Josh Philippe and Justin Avendano in the first three overs of the innings. Later on, a partnership of 30 runs stiched between Daniel Hughes (17 runs off 13 balls) and James Vince (27 runs off 21 balls) took the match away from the visitors.

The crunch in the match came when Rashid Khan dismissed Daniel Hughes on the last delivery of his second over of the innings. He further went on taking two wickets of James Vince and Jordan Silk on his first two deliveries of the next over. He managed to pull off a brilliant hat-trick as his team marked their comeback in the match. But, a 21-run knock by Tom Curran and three consecutive boundaries by Josh Hazelwood shattered the chances of Strikers winning the game.

Sydney Sixers chased the target of 135 runs with eight balls to spare and registered a convincing victory by a margin of two wickets. Also, Tom Curran was awarded Man of the Match for his all-round performance in the encounter.
