The 68th match of IPL 2022 was played between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings at Mumbai’s Brabourne stadium. In their last league game, CSK elected to bat after winning the toss. Batting first, Chennai managed to put a total of 150 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs.

Chasing the target, Rajasthan scored 151 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 19.4 overs to secure a 5-wicket win. RR ended their league stage at number two in the points table crossing the LSG with a better net run rate.

Moeen’s Magic didn’t work as CSK’s batting collapsed

In the first innings for Chennai Super Kings, Moeen Ali scored an explosive knock of 93 runs only off 57 balls with an amazing strike rate of 163.16, hitting three sixes and 13 fours. Apart from this, it was only skipper Dhoni who scored well, getting 26 runs on 28 deliveries with a four and a six. He managed to stabilize the shattered batting of CSK in the first innings but couldn’t finish in style as CSK scored 150 for 6 in 20 overs.

For Rajasthan, senior pacer Trent Boult was expensive, conceding 44 runs in four overs with the only wicket of Ruturaj Gaikwad. Both Chahal and Obed McCoy scalped two wickets each, conceding 26 and 20 runs respectively. Senior all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin also claimed a wicket after conceding 28 runs in his four overs. It was not a good day for Boult in bowling as he was struck mercilessly by CSK all-rounder Moeen Ali, who smashed him for 26 runs in one over.

Jaiswal and Ashwin took Rajasthan home

Chasing the target of 151 runs, Rajasthan didn’t get a good start as senior opener Jos Buttler went back to the pavilion just for two runs. But later on, a good knock of 59 runs on 44 balls from Yashasvi Jaiswal and a match-winning knock of 40 runs from senior all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin helped Rajasthan to reach the target with the two balls left and register a five-wicket win in their last league game.

Prashant Solanki was the only bowler who claimed two wickets for CSK. Other than him Simarjeet Singh, Mitchell Santner and Moeen Ali scalped one wicket each. After securing the win in their last game, Rajasthan surpassed Lucknow Super Giants in the race of playoffs as they finished in top two. Rajasthan have 18 points in the table against their name, which is equivalent to LSG but the Net Run Rate of RR has taken them to the second spot.
