Twitter Reactions: Renegades brush aside the Sixers' challenge with a thumping victory
Nabi was the hero for the Renegades who returned with the figures of 4/25.
Both Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Renegades came into this game on the back of big defeats at the hands of the oppositions in the Big Bash League (BBL). But only the latter side looked determined to make a resounding comeback. They thumped the hosts Sixers at the SCG by eight wickets to climb to the second position only a couple of points adrift of the Hurricanes who are sitting pretty at the top at the moment.
It went all downhill for the Sixers from the toss itself as the visitors won it and opted to field first. They never got going with the bat in the first 10 overs and were reduced to 29/4. The likes of Daniel Hughes, James Vince, Jack Edwards and the skipper Moises Henriques were sent back to the hut early. There was a brief partnership between Jordan Silk and Josh Phillipe but even they were sent back to make it 63/7.
Tom Curran brought some substance to the innings eventually with enterprising 44-run knock off just 30 balls. He smashed two fours and three maximums during his stay at the crease. But even his innings couldn’t bail the team out of trouble thanks to Mohammad Nabi who ended with the figures of 4/25. He scalped the dangerous Curran and Phillipe and cleaned up the tail to restrict the Sixers to 115/9 after 20 overs.
Cooper and Harper knock-off the runs
The chase was never going to be challenging for the Renegades. The only hope for the Sixers was the opposition’s collapse and that wasn’t going to happen this time around. Tom Cooper opened the innings and smacked a quick-fire 49 off just 33 balls even as Marcus Harris was sent back early. Cooper though missed only the second century of Renegades this season by a solitary run.
The in-form Sam Harper came and tonked the ball sweetly then to complete the formalities. He scored 31 off 24 balls as both of them were dismissed by Steve O’Keefe which only added the wickets tally for the left-arm spinner and nothing else. Harper was dismissed with only 6 runs and the fittingly, Nabi finished it with a first-ball six as the Renegades shrugged off the defeat in last game in style.
