It was a good day at the office for Indian batsmen as they managed to take a 472-run lead over Australia A at the end of Day 2 of the ongoing three-day day-night warm-up game at Sydney Cricket Ground. The match had commenced with Indian skipper Ajinkya Rahane winning the toss and electing to bat first. In the first innings, India managed to post a total of 194 on the board as Jasprit Bumrah scored his maiden half-century in professional cricket along with Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw scoring 43 and 40 runs respectively.

Chasing 194, Australia was all-out at 108 on Day 1 as the Indian pace attack breathed fire with the ball. Both Mohammed Shami and Navdeep Saini ended with three wickets each while Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj had two and one respectively under their belt. The wicketkeeper and captain Alex Carey emerged as the highest run-getter for hosts with 32 runs. Thus, Day 1 ended with India taking an 86-run lead.

Rishabh Pant launches an assault on Australian bowlers

Coming to Day 2, India was put to bat again against a lethal bowling attack of Australia A. The opening woes continued for visitors as they lost Prithvi Shaw in the second over while he was playing at 3. However, Shubman Gill and Mayank Agarwal stitched a crucial 104-run partnership for India as the former slammed 65 runs off 78 deliveries while latter added 61 runs to the scoreboard.

This was followed by skipper Rahane playing a short knock of 38 runs before losing his wicket to Mark Steketee. The middle-order batsman Hanuma Vihari and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant launched an assault on the Australian bowlers as the two players collected an unbeaten 147-run stand. While Vihari played a classic Test knock of 104* runs off 194 deliveries, Pant was in a different zone altogether as he brought in a scintillating century in just 73 runs. Pant played a sublime knock of 103* runs off 73 balls including 9 boundaries and 6 maximums.

This resulted in India taking a mammoth lead of 472 runs with both Hanuma Vihari and Rishabh Pant unbeaten.
