Rajasthan Royals simply can’t lose nowadays! Despite posting a paltry total on the board, the Men in Pink crossed the line pretty comfortably against RCB. Riyan Parag was the chief architect of RR’s triumph this time as he silenced his critics with a mighty fine half-century. In the bowling department, Ravi Ashwin and Kuldeep Sen were the stand-out performers as RR won the contest by 29 runs.
Earlier in the match, Royal Challengers Bangalore won the toss and opted to bowl at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. Unlike the previous games, RR got off to a terrible start with both openers Jos Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal perishing for single-digit scores. As Buttler slammed centuries in his last two outings, his early ouster was nothing short of a bonus for RCB.
Finisher Riyan Parag finally unleashed his A-game
While Ravichandran Ashwin and Sanju Samson got starts, they failed to play an innings of substance. The same was the case for IPL debutant Daryl Mitchell. Losing five wickets inside 100 runs, the Men in Pink looked in all sorts of trouble but then arrived Riyan Parag, determined to make a mark. The youngster finally batted with his full potential as RR collected some handy runs towards the end.
He ended up scoring an unbeaten 56 off 31 balls as the Royals posted a respectable 144/8 in their allotted 20 overs. RCB, in reply, didn’t get off to a fine start either with Virat Kohli, who was promoted to the opening slot for this game, enduring yet another failure. He scored nine on this occasion. While skipper Faf du Plessis and Rajat Patidar tried doing the repair work, their dismissals tightened RR’s grip over the contest.
RCB couldn’t really recover from this blow and it was one-way traffic since then. Adding salt to their injury, the evergreen and in-form Dinesh Karthik was run out for six. All the RR bowlers were brilliant while defending a low total, especially Ashwin and Kuldeep Sen, who scalped three wickets and four wickets respectively. Faf du Plessis’ men were eventually bundled out for 115, losing the contest by 29 runs.
Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitter reacted to RR’s triumph:

Riyan Parag becomes only the 3rd player in history to score a fifty and take 4 or more catches in an IPL match.

Riyan Parag has been brutally trolled, there were lots of theories among fans but no one looked where he is batting and where he used to bat for Assam, today got the big opportunity and make use most of it – take a bow, Riyan.

Happy for Riyan Parag. He was being wasted low in the order and has shown he has the game to play up at 4 or 5.

Riyan Parag is 20 years old, and he will be a future Indian international. I would so love to see where you and your panel are going to bury your faces then for endlessly targeting him now. @muthupradeep
