There’s wasn’t much respite for South Africa and it will need a herculean effort from them to make a comeback in the third Test in Ranchi. India, on the contrary, are well and truly on the driver’s seat and have outplayed their opponent in all departments. At the close of play on the second day at the JSCA International Stadium, the Proteas trail by 488 runs with eight first-innings wickets in hand.
Rohit and Rahane frustrate South Africa
Starting with an overnight score of 224 for three, Rohit Sharma (212) and Ajinkya Rahane (115) piled on more agony for the visitors. Rahane got to his century off 169 balls, but soon after debutant George Linde got rid of him. It also brought to an end a 267-run stand. In the first session, Rohit was well on his way of getting his maiden Test double ton and was unbeaten on 199 at the Lunch break.
At the start of the second session, he pulled Lungi Ngidi for a six to accomplish the double century off 249 balls. Kagiso Rabada nipped him out after he plundered 212 with 28 fours and six hits over the ropes. Ravindra Jadeja again batted higher up the order and notched 51 off 119 deliveries with four boundaries. Wriddhiman Saha looked fluent for his 24 runs before Linde rattled his woodwork.
Umesh and Shami breathe fire
Ravi Ashwin became Dane Piedt’s maiden victim. Then it was the turn of Umesh Yadav to have some fun with the bat in hand. He didn’t die wondering and hammered his way to 31 off 10 balls. Yadav was severe on the spinners, having hit five sixes. In the end, Linde induced a false stroke off his blade and sent him back. Even Mohammed Shami hit one six before India declared on 497 in 11.3 overs.
With light fading, the South Africa openers- Dean Elgar and Quinton de Kock- had a massive task in hand. In the very first over, extra bounce from Shami accounted for Elgar’s wicket. In the next over, Yadav came to the party and bounced out De Kock. Shahbaz Nadeem bowled a couple of maidens in his first job as a Test spinner. Thereafter, the players went off and play was called off at 3:45 PM.

The #TeamIndia seamers scored above their SA counterparts not with their sheer talent , but just that they are much more ‘ Aware’ ,and it’s not just the conditions ,but ‘what to do’ and ‘what not to do’ as well #INDvsSA #Awareness #Sport #BadriBytes

Welcome to the 200 Club @ImRo45. A brilliant innings supported by @ajinkyarahane88 who himself played a very fluent century.
Loved watching the Mumbaikars control the game the way they did through their 267 run partnership.#INDvSA pic.twitter.com/jGH9PfZgng— VINOD KAMBLI (@vinodkambli349) October 20, 2019

What a great delight it is to see the way @ajinkyarahane88 played. Good to see him amongst runs. A hundred at home in three years should be a huge relief and will also give him a world of confidence #INDvSA

One of the most fluent and dominating centuries of Rahane’s Test career. And the highlight was the fact that he never tried hard….treated pace-spin alike. Very democratic ☺️🤗👏👏 #IndvSA
