Twitter Reactions: Rohit Sharma follows his skipper's footsteps to score his 20th ODI century
Rohit will now look to finish the game after Kohli's dismissal.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have just annihilated Windies in the chase in Guwahati. One felt that Shikhar Dhawan’s wicket will make the game interesting, but India’s top three batsmen are so strong that the opposition shouldn’t celebrate until they dismiss at least two of those batsmen. After Kohli nonchalantly notched up his 36th ODI ton, Rohit upped the ante to reach the milestone.
While his opening partner was sent back early and then Kohli started scoring at a brisk rate, Rohit just stayed put and went about his business. He looked nervous at the start and was surprised to see Oshane Thomas clock close 149 kph on his debut. He passed those hurdles in the first 10 overs and then targetted the bowlers. Slowly all his shots were unfurled and the mere flicks began to go out of the ground.
The spinners bowled it short way too often to make it so easy for him as well. The runs were flowing from both the ends as the opponent skipper Jason Holder looked helpless and even his introduction didn’t work for the visitors.
Pure class from Rohit
If Kohli’s innings was all about dominance over the bowlers, Rohit Sharma was pure class. He didn’t let any Windies bowler settle and went berserk after crossing 50-run mark. Soon, it became inevitable that both the batsmen were going to get to their respective and Windies only helped them get there.
Rohit had a special treatment after Kohli’s century as there were a lot of loose deliveries and even the misfields which helped him reach his 20th ton in the 50-overs format off just 84 balls. The celebrations were subdued though as there was a glove love with his partner and the crowd greeted him with a standing ovation as well. Guwahati crowd was treated with a special knock from two of the World’s best batsmen and they loved it to the hilt.
