Twitter Reactions: Rohit Sharma's 94 guides Mumbai Indians past 200 after early jolts
Evin Lewis also scored a very well paced fifty.
The Mumbai Indians have always been latebloomers in the history of the Indian Premier League. And their fans would be hoping that their team starts blooming soon this season, before it actually gets a little too late. The first three matches for the defending champions have yielded three negative results, and all going till the final stages of the game. Amidst this backdrop, it would certainly be difficult for the team management to keep the spirits high.
Furthermore, the desperation to seek first points on the board must be high too. With such thoughts in the mind, the Mumbai Indians hosted the Royal Challengers Bangalore in their third home game of the season. While the MI camp was low on confidence coming in to the game, the case of the visiting side was no different either. Both sides believed this was their best shot at getting things back on track.
At the half way stage, the same thought continues to be around. Despite the hosts posting a total in excess of 200, RCB can fancy their chances at the batting belter in Mumbai. Coming to the game, it was RCB skipper Virat Kohli who won the toss and opted to bowl first. Umesh Yadav gave the best possible start to the RCB team by dismissing Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan on the first two deliveries of the match.
With two golden ducks, the MI scorecard did not look too impressive. Rohit Sharma and Evin Lewis then bailed out the hosts out of trouble. They added 108 runs in 66 deliveries for the third wicket to get Mumbai Indians right back in to the game. The partnership was broken in the 12th over when Corey Anderson dismissed Evin Lewis on 65 (42).
After the dismissal of Evin Lewis, Rohit Sharma almost singlehandedly carried the innings forward. He found some brief supports from Krunal Pandya and Hardik Pandya. In the end, Rohit finished with 94 to his name. His knock came off 52 deliveries with 10 fours and 5 sixes. He was unfortunate to have missed out on a well deserved century and perished on the penultimate delivery in the match. MI finished with 213/6 in their 20 overs.
