New Zealand played South Africa today at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. South Africa were leading the series by 1-0 while going into this game. South Africa won the toss and put the Blackcaps into batting first. New Zealand levelled the series with a 6 run victory over the Proteas.
The men in black got off to a bad start as they lost Latham cheaply. He was picked up by Parnell for just 2 as New Zealand were reduced to 1 for 13. The skipper Kane Williamson and Brownlie saw them past 50 as Brownlie was trapped in front of the wickets by Pretorius. It was then Kane and Ross Taylor who stitched a 104 run partnership that acted as a base for a par score at Christchurch.
Williamson was shown his way back to the pavilion as he was caught by Phehlukwayo off Imran Tahir in the 31st over. The fourth wicket came as early as in 33rd over when Broom was caught off Pretorius for just two. Taylor and James Neesham then took it to themselves and crafted a 123-run partnership. Ross Taylor went on to score a beautiful century. He remained not out on 102 in 110 deliveries. He hit 8 fours in his innings. The fireworks were provided by the pinch hitter James Neesham who scored a quickfire 71 of 57 deliveries smashing 6 fours in the process.
South Africa, on the other hand, were mediocre in the bowling performances as no bowler could pick up wickets. Their batting too didn’t click. They got off to a bad start as they lost their star man Hashim Amla with just 22 on board. South Africa kept losing wickets at regular intervals. One of the world’s best batsmen AB de Villiers also couldn’t get going as he scored a 45 of 49 balls. Quinton de Kock got off to a start but couldn’t build on it as he was grabbed by Boult. David Miller shared the same story as of de Kock. He scored a 28 and was dismissed by the leg-spinner, Sodhi.

Pretorius could have seen Proteas home but couldn’t do so. He scored a blistering 50 of just 27 balls but was cleaned by Trent Boult who finished with a three-for. South Africa were reduced to wickets with 15 needed off the last over. They eventually lost by 6 runs and allowed the Blackcaps to level the series.
