English all-rounder Moeen Ali scalped two wickets in two successive deliveries to get rid of the last two batsmen of the Proteas lineup in the fourth Test. With the scalps, team England registered an emphatic win over the South African side in the final Test of the series. A clinical 177 run win in the game saw the hosts seal the series 3-1.
The misery for the visitors on the tour continued as yet another batting disappointment beckoned them in the second innings. The misery had started about a couple of months ago when the team had landed in England for the limited overs series. They lost the ODI series, had a troubled time in the ICC Champions Trophy, the T20Is were lost, and now the Test series went begging.
Talking about the Test series, team England had inflicted an easy win in the first Test. The Proteas camp bounced back to register a mammoth win in the second Test. However, they failed to replicate the same in the final two Tests and ended up conceding a 3-1 result in the favor of the hosts.
Coming to the final Test, all-rounder Moeen Ali was the star of the show. Ali, who had bagged a hat-trick in the previous Test, continued his good form with the ball. He finished with figures of 5/69 as South Africa bundled out 202 in the final innings. Earlier in the game, England had posted a decent total of 362 on the board. South Africa fell agonizingly short of the total and could muster just 226 runs in their first innings.
England had a rather timid outing in the second innings. However, a certain unbeaten 75 from Moeen Ali helped them post 243 runs on the board. The English won the game and in some serious fashion. There are a lot of positives to take for the hosts. At the same time, the South Africans have a lot to ponder about.
Here is how the social media reacted to the game:
