Twitter Reactions: Sabbir's fifty takes Bangladesh to 166 after Chahal's triple strike
Bangladesh posted 166/8 after Rohit Sharma asked them to bat first.
After a thrilling win over Sri Lanka in the last league game of the Nidahas Trophy 2018, team Bangladesh marched in to the finals of the tournament. They were set to lock horns with the tournament favorites, team India, in the ultimate game for the final glory. Coming in to the game, the Indian side had an upper hand considering the fact that they had tamed the Bangladeshis in both the league games between the two sides.
The Bangladesh side certainly wanted to keep this mental blocking away as they entered the finals. Also, they fancied chasing considering their two stupendous wins over Sri Lanka in the series. However, things started off on a bad note for them with the Indian skipper asking the Bangladeshi side to bat first in the finals. After an initial block, they did manage to put up a decent total on the board though.
However, as the things stand out at the halfway stage, team India would fancy their chances to chase down the total with relative ease. Commenting on the innings, Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das had a cautious start in the match. But India’s new ball bowler, Washington Sundar, proved to be a wicket-taking option yet again as he dismissed Liton on 11 in the fourth over of the game.
Sabbir Rahman was the new man in. Before he could settle at the crease, Yuzvendra Chahal spun a web across Tamim to send the latter packing on 15. Chahal’s guile proved to be too hot to handle for the Bangladesh side as he picked up two more wickets including the wicket of Mushfiqur Rahim.
Mahmudullah chipped in with a crucial 21 (16) in the middle overs but the real impetus was given by Sabbir in the innings. Sabbir carried the innings along with his 50-ball 77. His knock was studded with seven fours and four sixes. Sabbir perished in the penultimate over of the game. His efforts, combined with last over heroics from Mehidy Hasan (19 off 7 balls) helped Bangladesh finish with 166/8 in their 20 overs.
