Twitter Reactions: Salt, Rashid and Briggs shine as Adelaide Strikers crush the hapless Perth Scorchers
Having restricted their opponents to 165 for 8 after 20, the task was with the batsmen, who floundered heavily.
The performance of Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League (BBL 2020-21) is an apt representation of their position in the table, where they stand at the bottom. The quite managed to do it again against the Adelaide Strikers in the 17th encounter of the tournament.
It took the Scorchers as many as 7.2 overs to break the opening stand of Strikers, after they elected to field first, however, with the ball, the outing for them was not even closely as bad as it turned out to be with the bat. Their bowlers had to face the ire of Phil Salt, who slammed four sixes and as many fours during his 51 from 31. Adding 57 for the first wicket with his partner Jake Weatherald (18 from 23), Salt fell to Kane Richardson courtesy of a sensational catch by Ashton Turner at mid-off.
Rashid Khan’s cameo powers Strikers to 165
The Strikers were derailed after the fall of Matt Renshaw, who failed to make his ground and ran himself out. His dismissal inflicted a short collapse as the 91 for 3 soon deteriorated to 110 for 5. While skipper Alex Carey (15 from 20) holed out to the fielder at the deep square in an attempt to shift gears, Jonathan Wells followed suit a couple of overs later, when he edged one from Mitchell Marsh to give Josh Inglis an easy chance at short third man. The Strikers were then powered by the cameo of Rashid Khan, who slammed three sixes in his 13-ball 29, while he got some assistance from Matthew Short (16 from 14).
Strikers strike clinically with the ball
Having restricted their opponents to 165 for 8 after 20, the task was with the batsmen, who floundered heavily. The only moment that Scorchers ever looked in the game was during the 35-run opening stand between Josh Inglis and Jos Buttler. While Buttler slammed three fours and a six in his 21 from 11, Inglis looked fluent before he perished to Wes Agar for 16 from 11. Rashid Khan struck soon to give another breakthrough to the Strikers as Colin Munro (5 from 8) managed to faintly edge to the keeper.
Though Liam Livingstone stood an end for a while, as he amassed 22 from 24, the wickets continued to tumble continuously from the other end. None amongst Mitchell Marsh, Ashton Turner, and Aaron Hardie could play sensibly in the middle order as they failed to even reach double figures. Daniel Worrall, Peter Siddle, Wes Agar, Rashid Khan, and Danny Briggs, all picked a couple of wickets each as the Scorchers bundled out for 94 from 15 overs, to hand a massive 71-run victory to the Strikers.
