Twitter Reactions: Sanju Samson plunders CSK bowling attack in his 32-ball 74
Samson slammed nine sixes during his knock.
The Rajasthan Royals (RR) got their campaign underway on the fourth day of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) on Tuesday. And they did it in style with Sanju Samson going all guns blazing against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bowlers. He came in to bat after the Royals lost Yashasvi Jaiswal early in the innings and it didn’t take long for Samson to get going.
It all started in the fifth over when the Royals had scored only 26 runs after the first four overs and Sanju took the attack to Sam Curran first hitting a six and a four off consecutive deliveries. But the real onslaught began after the powerplay ended. Ravindra Jadeja was first taken apart for 14 runs including two sixes and then Piyush Chawla faced the wrath.
The leg-spinner was taken apart for 28 runs by the duo of Steve Smith and Sanju Samson with the latter hitting three sixes. While Jadeja corrected his length in his second over, Chawla continued to be clueless with Samson going berserk. Even in his second over, the spinner conceded 19 more runs to leave MS Dhoni out of answers.
Sanju Samson scores a 19-ball 50
The carnage led to Sanju Samson reaching his half-century only in 19 balls and it turned to be joint second-fastest for the Royals ever in the IPL. Owais Shah had taken the same number of deliveries against the RCB back in the 2012 season while Jos Buttler has scored the fastest fifty off 18 balls against the Delhi Capitals last year.
Sanju didn’t stop even after crossing the 50-run mark but his innings came to a screeching halt in the 12th over. Lungi Ngidi bowled a wide delivery to him and in another attempt to hit a maximum, the talented batsman holed out in the deep with Deepak Chahar taking a good running catch.
Samson got out after scoring 74 off just 32 balls with a four and nine sixes to his name and his strike-rate of 231.25 was one of the best for the team against CSK ever. His wicket came at the right time for the Men in Yellow as the Royals’ number three was running away with the game.
